Generator Installs
What to Expect

Typical Installation Time:
Installing a whole house generator takes time, depending on the complexity of the installation and any necessity groundwork or utility coordination (gas lines, electrical work). It is a straightforward process, but it involves several steps that require expertise in both electrical and gas installations.
Initial Consultation and Site Assessment:
Professional Evaluation: We will send out a Professional to visit your home to assess your power needs and evaluate the site for the generator.
Determining Power Requirements:
We will help calculate the total wattage needed to power what’s important to you such as HVAC, refrigerator, lights, etc. and ensure the generators size is sufficient as well as recommending what should or shouldn’t be powered during an outage.
Site Selection:

We will identify the best location for the generator, considering factors like ventilation, accessibility for maintenance, local codes and noise levels. The generator should be placed outdoors in a dry, level area away from windows and doors.
Permits and Paperwork - Local Codes and Permits:
Most areas require permits for the installation of residential generators. These permits are typically related to the electrical connections, gas lines installations and safety regulations. We will require a signed and notarized Notice of Commencement and Site Survey as most municipalities require these documents to get approval and inspections.
HOA Approval:
If you live in a community with a Homeowners Association check whether they have specific guidelines for the generator installations, which may require approval by them.
Lead Time:
Depending on the generator model and the availability, it might take several weeks for the generator to arrive. Some models may need to be custom ordered especially if there are specific requirements. This could increase installation time.
Installation Day

Generator Delivery:
The generator will be delivered to your home. Depending on the size and weight of the unit, it may require a crane or special equipment for placement.
Positioning and Mounting:
The installers will position the generator in the pre-selected area, ensuring it is level, stable and compliant with local codes. Many systems also include a concrete pad.
Electrical Wiring:

The electrician will wire the generator to your home’s electrical system, which typically involves connecting it to the main electrical panel through an automatic transfer switch (ATS). The ATS ensures that when the power goes out, the generator automatically kicks in, supplying power without manual intervention. A Disconnect with the power company may be required during this part of the installation.
Fuel Line Connection:
We will coordinate with a partnered gas company for the installation of propane or natural gas. The subcontractor will connect the generator to your home’s gas supply if available or coordinate installation of a new fuel source such as propane if needed. If you currently have a leased LP system, your gas company will have to make the gas connection to your new generator.
Testing and Commissioning
System Check:
Once installed, the installer will run the generator to ensure everything is working correctly. This includes testing the automatic transfer switch, checking the power output, and verifying the system runs as expected under load.
Programming:
If your generator has advanced features (such as remote monitoring or smart controls), the installer may spend some time setting up these systems to ensure you can easily monitor and control the unit.
Training and Handover
User Training:
The installer will provide you with a basic training session on how to operate the generator, how to perform the routine maintenance, (oil changes, fuel management), and how to trouble shoor common issues.
Owner’s Manual:
We will give you the owner’s manual for the generator, which includes important information about the system’s maintenance schedule, warranty and troubleshooting.
Final Steps
Inspections:
Some regions may require final inspections by local authorities to ensure the installation meets all codes and requirements.
Ongoing Maintenance
Scheduled Service:
Regular maintenance is crucial to keep your generator running smoothly. This includes oil changes, filter replacements, and fuel system checks. We offer annual maintenance contracts to ensure your generator stays in peak conditions for when you need it!
